YAZEED ACCUSED OF ATTACKING CORRECTIONS OFFICERS IN LEE COUNTY JAIL

The man jailed for the kidnapping and murder of Auburn University student Aniah Blanchard is now charged with assault for a jailhouse attack on Lee County corrections officers.

Court records show Ibraheem Yazeed accused of attacking the corrections officers on March 23 as he was being taken back to his cell from a shower. According to the records, Yazeed started swinging and kicking at the officer before being tased several times.

Another officer was bitten on the leg during the confrontation. Yazeed is scheduled to be in court May 27 for a hearing on the newly-filed assault charge.

Yazeed was arrested Dec. 14, 2019 on a capital murder charge. He’s been held in the Lee County Jail since his arrest without bond. Yazeed is accused of kidnapping Blanchard from a convenience store last October in Auburn. Her body was recovered more than a month later in Macon County.

Yazeed is set for a preliminary hearing in Blanchard’s murder case on June 3.
