World Games Medals on display in Tuscaloosa
by WVUA 23 Sports Reporter Ronnell Foreman Jr
The 2022 World Games held a fan photo opportunity at Tuscaloosa’s University Mall on Thursday. This was part of the World Games “Medal Reveal Tour”. This was the third stop on the tour across the state of Alabama to showcase the medals.
Fans came to take pictures with the World Games mascots, Vulcan and Vesta, and to try on the gold, silver, and bronze medals.
Luke Pennington, the Events Operations Manager for The World Games, thinks this is a great way to get people thinking about this summer’s event.
“I think it’s good for the state to show different cultures, diversity with everything coming to one place in Birmingham,” Pennington said. “You know, to show the great state of Alabama for what it really is.”
Two names that will be recognizable to Alabama softball fans will be participating in the games. Current pitcher Montana Fouts and former All American outfielder Haylie McCleney will be representing the USA softball team.
The World Games are to be held in Birmingham this summer, with this being just the second time they will be held in the United States. The World Games are scheduled to be July 7-17. You can go to twg2022.com to purchase tickets.
