WOMAN GRAZED BY CELEBRATORY GUNSHOT

Leading up to New Year’s Eve, law enforcement warned citizens about shooting guns into the air to celebrate, but not everyone listened.

A Cottondale woman says she is lucky to be alive after she was hit inside her on home with one of these shots.

Helen Snipes lives off of Old Birmingham Highway in Tuscaloosa County. She says the clock had barely struck midnight, when she went to use the restroom. That’s when a bullet came through her ceiling and grazed her back, knocking her to the ground.

Snipes was not seriously injured, but had she been positioned an inch in another direction, she may not have lived to tell about this nightmare.

“It was very, very terrifying,” Snipes said. “I do not even use that bathroom anymore. I an pretty traumatized by it but I can’t let it just swallow me all up. I have to go on and just be glad I am here,” she added.

Tuscaloosa County Sheriff Ron Abernathy says the person or persons responsible for this could face criminal charges.
