Update: Woman Facing Murder Charges in Child Abuse Case

Update 2 p.m. Dec. 30, 2020:
The 6-month-old child police say was assaulted and abused by a 30-year-old woman on Tuesday has died, police said this afternoon.
Charges against the child’s caretaker, 30-year-old Tiffany Washington, have been upgraded to murder.
A 6-month-old child is fighting for their life and a woman is behind bars in Tuscaloosa after an incident on Tuesday.
Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a home Tuesday around 2:30 p.m. after they were called regarding an unresponsive child.
The child’s caretaker, 30-year-old Tiffany Washington, told police she found the child unresponsive and began CPR.
Members of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit began an investigation into the incident and charged Washington Tuesday evening with assault and aggravated child abuse. Washington was placed in the Tuscaloosa County Jail on a bond of $90,000.
Authorities said additional or upgraded charges are likely.
