Woman dies after fire that also killed her granddaughter

CENTER POINT, Ala. (AP) – Authorities say a woman who sustained critical injuries in an Alabama house fire has now died. Al.com reports that the Sunday blaze in Center Point also claimed the life of her 7-year-old granddaughter.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s office says 41-year-old Waniki Lushun Fox was pronounced dead at UAB Hospital on Tuesday. Her granddaughter, Za’Niyah Fox, died Sunday morning. Center Point Fire Chief Gene Coleman says fire began in the kitchen. He said it appears to have been an accidental fire.
