Woman, 82, killed in Shelby County wreck Monday afternoon

A woman from Shelby is dead in the wake of a two-vehicle crash Monday afternoon in Shelby County.

The crash happened just before 4 p.m. on Shelby County Route 47, about 4 miles south of Columbiana in Shelby County.

Jacqueline V. Lowery, 82, was fatally injured when the vehicle she was driving collided head-on with an SUV driven by a 43-year-old woman who lives in Shelby.

Lowery, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene. The 43-year-old woman was taken to UAB Hospital in Birmingham for treatment.

Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Highway Patrol Division are investigating the cause of the crash.
