NORFOLK, Va. (AP) – The U.S. Navy has confirmed the authenticity of three videos taken from its planes that show unidentified objects flying through the air.

Navy spokesman Joseph Gradisher told The Associated Press the videos were taken in 2004 and 2015.

Gradisher said the videos have been circulating online and weren’t authorized for release. But the footage has prompted the Navy to publicly discuss an ongoing investigation into the sightings.

Gradisher said the service is updating guidelines to encourage its pilots to better report the sightings as Navy investigators analyze the information.

Gradisher declined to characterize what pilots saw. But he said the sightings seemed to increase with the advent of drone technology.

Meanwhile, lawmakers are calling for more information on the unidentified objects, some of which seem to challenge the laws of physics.
