WEST BLOCTON HIGH TEACHER INDICTED ON SEX WITH STUDENT CHARGES

A West Blocton High School teacher on administrative leave has been indicted on charges of having an inappropriate relationship with a student.

Michael Jones is charged with one count of being a school employee and having sex with a student younger than 19, along with two counts of having sexual contact with a student younger than 19.

Jones has been on administrative leave at the school since Sept. 16 because of the allegations. He was indicted following an investigation led by the Bibb County Sheriff’s Department, and was arrested Tuesday.

Jones has been employed as a teacher at West Blocton High since 2004. The Bibb County School System said in a statement today that the superintendent and school board will address his employment status upon his release from jail.
