WEST ALABAMA WORKS TALKS EMPLOYMENT AT 2020 QUARTERLY SUMMIT

By WVUA 23 Reporter Caroline Wood

West AlabamaWorks! hosted its Quarterly Workforce Summit Tuesday.

The event was held at Tuscaloosa Career and Technology Academy and focused on workforce development. Industry leaders, educators and policymakers gathered to discuss some of the issues in workforce development.

Officials said the most relevant issue right now is that there are more jobs available than there are people to fill the positions.

“The biggest issue right now is bodies,” said Donny Jones, executive director of West AlabamaWorks!. “We need more bodies than we actually have in this area so we’re really talking about, how do you get people in the workforce, how do you train the individuals and then how do you connect them to the jobs we have.”

The summit aimed to bridge the gap between those seeking employment through West AlabamaWorks! and those employers. For more information, visit westalabamaworks.com.
