West Alabama Works

West AlabamaWorks!, along with the Westervelt Company, Shelton State Community College and the Tuscaloosa Area Career center are going to different counties to reach out to people to come to their career fair each week. This week their area was Hale County.

Whether locals are looking for work or may have a job and are seeking better, this opportunity was for everyone. The event was free to the public and held at Hale County High School.

Individuals that attended were able to apply to jobs with over 18 companies, sign up for training, get assistance with their resumes and hear about even better opportunities for those who already have a job but are seeking new.

Applications filled out are put into the WAW system online and the next day companies will immediately start calling them and getting them into jobs and helping.

West AlabamaWorks! executive director Donny Jones said the biggest thing they are hoping to do is to get as many people into their career connect system at WestAlabamaWorks.com so their navigators can actually help them find a job and also help them into the training they need to get a better job. It is also applicable to those that have a job currently. Jones says it is a holistic approach to workforce development where one is helping people find career pathways, not just a job.
