West Alabama Works is partnering with Tuscaloosa Tourism and Sports to host a virtual hospitality job fair beginning Sept. 16 through Sept. 23.

More than 30 hospitality companies are looking to fill 125 full- and part-time jobs.

“We are in a workforce crisis right now, particularly in hospitality, and so what we’re seeing now is as the governor has stopped those checks from coming on the COVID dollars it has impacted folks to the point that they’re going back to the workforce,” said West Alabama Works Executive Director Donny Jones. “So that’s why we are encouraging people to go to this virtual job fair and they can get a great job in our hospitality industry in just a matter of days.”

Jones emphasized the importance of filling these jobs in the West Alabama area simply because of the increased tourism during the fall.

“We have a serious crisis when it comes to the experience. When people are coming into one of our football games, when they are coming to visit our community, we want to make sure they are served in a timely fashion, but also have a great experience,” said Jones. “So, we have to make sure that our restaurants, our hospitality industry, as a whole, particularly our hotels are staffed completely so that those folks who come visit our communities actually have a great experience.”

Job seekers of all levels are needed.
