Job Fair

Thursday night, West Alabama Works Bibb County Outreach is hoping that a job fair event is a step in the right direction for individuals in Bibb County.

The hiring fair was held at the Bibb County Career Center Academy in West Blocton where the goal was to fill hundreds of jobs coming open in the West Alabama Area.

Unlike most job fairs, individuals Thursday applied for jobs virtually online and then immediately the next day their applications would be sent to over 18 companies where as traditionally it could take weeks at a time to hear anything back from specific companies.

Donny Jones, Executive director for West Alabama Works says they hope to find more people who really want to go through the training program.

“Mercedes continues to expand so we have a lot of jobs that are still available with the new battery plant like the expansion of the Mercedes plant. There is a lot of opportunity for great jobs and that is the main thing, says Jones to help people understand what it takes to go work for one of the suppliers.”

West Alabama Works teamed up with Shelton State Community College, Moeller Tech, the Tuscaloosa Area Career Center and the Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama to make this event happen.
