WEST ALABAMA GAS TAX BREAKDOWN: FOLLOW THE MONEY
Alabama counties are turning in their ideas for how they’ll spend money from the Rebuild Alabama gas tax.
The 10-cent tax, approved by Gov. Kay Ivey in March, is going toward improving Alabama’s infrastructure like roads and bridges. At the moment, drivers are paying an additional 6 cents per gallon of gasoline, but the tax will increase to 8 cents in 2020 and the full 10 cents in 2021.
Before the Rebuild Alabama Act, the state’s last gas tax increase was in in the 1990s.
Here’s how much money West Alabama’s counties are getting from the County Rebuild Alabama Fund, and what they’re planning on doing with the money. Additional money for each county is coming as part of the Federal Aid Exchange Fund.
