The West Alabama Food Bank is still open and still serving those in need, but they need your help ensuring there’s enough food to go around.

As schools and businesses close, many residents in the nine counties the food bank serves are struggling with providing for the immediate needs of their family.

That’s especially true for seniors and families residing in West Alabama’s rural areas, said food bank Executive Director Jean Rykaczewski.

“We’re asking only people in desperate need of food to come up,” she said. “What I would like people to understand is that we have eight other counties that we’re trying to deal with and get food. We are bringing truckloads of food in every day.”

The West Alabama Food Bank is located on McFarland Boulevard in Northport. If you need assistance, call 888-421-1266.

If you’d like to donate, you can do so online right here, or you can drop off food donations from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and from 8 a.m. to noon on Friday.
