WEST ALABAMA FOOD AND WINE FESTIVAL CANCELED THIS YEAR, BUT SPONSORS ARE STILL DONATING

While there won’t be a West Alabama Food and Wine Festival this year, event sponsors are ensuring their contributions are going toward a good cause.

Sponsors including Mercedes-Benz U.S. International, Nucor Steel, BF Goodrich and Byrant Bank are donating the money they were using on the event to the American Red Cross’ West Alabama Chapter.

In all, $11,000 is going to the Red Cross, and anyone who bought tickets can do the same.

The 2020 West Alabama Food and Wine Festival was originally scheduled for April 9 and was rescheduled for May 21. But even organizers decided on canceling the event because of crowd restrictions and safety concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Next year’s West Alabama Food and Wine Festival will be happening April 8, 2021 at the Tuscaloosa River Market.

“The decision to cancel was not made lightly, but our committee chose to put the health, safety and well-being of our valued patrons, special guests and our wonderful local restaurant partners and vendors first,” said 2020 WAFWF co-chair Debbie Sanford in a statement.

It’s the first time the food and wine festival has been canceled since its inception in 2012.

“We are grateful to our community and our local restaurants for their support of the Red Cross through this festival each year and hope you will consider making a gift to Red Cross in lieu of the festival this year. We remain active in disaster efforts, but also help locally with blood supply, fire prevention and recovery and many other things we couldn’t do without your support,” said American Red Cross of West Alabama Executive Director Misty Moon in a statement.
