WEST ALABAMA EMERGENCY SERVICES SUSPENDS OPERATIONS IN BIBB COUNTY
Increased ambulance response times could be one side effect of a Bibb County emergency medical services provider temporarily suspending its services.
Thursday, West Alabama Emergency Services announced they’d temporarily suspend EMS services, including ambulance service, leaving Am-Serv EMS to handle many Bibb County emergencies alone.
Am-Serv did handle all calls in the area before West Alabama Emergency Services began running out of Green Pond last year.
Am-Serv Director Sonny Weaver said he was informed of the change Thursday by the Bibb County 911 Board. He said he’s worried about patients who need help in remote areas.
“Between our base and Highway 5, it’s 21 miles,” he said. “Twenty minutes. For an emergency with traffic. Twenty minutes. You know that’s a long way.”
