WalletHub Study: Alabama is 6th-Worst State for Women’s Equality

WalletHub recently named Alabama as the sixth-worst state for women’s equality in 2020.

Hawaii is ranked No. 1, followed by Maine. At the bottom of the rankings are Utah at No. 50 and Idaho at No. 49.

Mississippi is one rank higher than Alabama at No. 44. Tennessee is No. 37, Georgia is No. 35 and Florida is No. 27.

The survey ranked Alabama near the bottom for earnings gap, minimum-wage workers gap, unemployment rate gap and entrepreneurship rate gap. Alabama also ranked 48th in workplace environment for women, while the highest score the state received was for work hours gap, which ranked 20th.

WalletHub used 17 metrics that are used across 50 states in order to fairly evaluate states for women’s equality.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, women have lost jobs at a greater rate than men, According to WalletHub.
