The Walker County town of Dora is offering a $200 incentive for reluctant residents to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

About 40% of the population is fully vaccinated in Walker County, roughly in line with the state average.

The funds for the incentive come from federal COVID-19 relief money.

Mayor Randy Stephens said it’s important to keep the town’s residents healthy.

“We want to keep our employees at work, but more than anything else we want to keep them healthy,” said Stephens. “So, we hope that we are providing a mechanism to get them immunized and keep them from getting the virus.”

This vaccine incentive will continue until the end of 2021.
