Violent Crimes Unit still searching for University Mall shooting suspect

The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit is still searching for the person or persons responsible for firing several shots inside University Mall’s food court Saturday afternoon.

It happened just after 1:30 p.m., and four people wound up injured. One woman was taken to DCH Regional Medical Center for treatment after she was grazed by a bullet. The others did not require hospitalization and were treated at the scene.

Tuscaloosa officials said this shooting is unprescedented, especially given the location and time of the incident.

“It’s unsettling that people can’t come and enjoy a nice day at the mall on a Saturday afternoon with their families, with their children,” said District 1 City Council Member Matthew Wilson. “I think this is hurtful.”

The mall reopened Sunday.

If you have any information regarding the shooting, please call the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit at 205-464-8690.
