Violent Crimes Unit investigating after fatal Coaling fire

Fatal Fire Cropped

The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit is investigating after a woman died Monday in a house fire in Coaling.

There’s nothing that indicates anything other than an accidental fire, but investigations are standard procedure in any unnatural deaths, TVCU said.

Coaling Police, Coaling Fire and Tuscaloosa Fire Rescue responded around 4 p.m. to West Manor Drive at the site of the fire. Witnesses told first responders that the residence may have been occupied by a female homeowner. Upon entry by firefighters, the victim was found dead.

People who knew the victim said she smoked cigarettes, often while in bed.

Alabama’s Fire Marshal’s Office is working alongside TVCU to investigate the cause and origin of the fire, but there’s nothing at this time that indicates anything other than an accidental fire.
