The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit is investigating after two children who had been shot arrived for treatment at DCH Regional Medical Center Monday night.

Tuscaloosa Police responded after medical personnel called regarding the children, boys ages 8 and 10, around 10 p.m.

The mother told police that she and a friend had gotten into an argument with several people earlier that evening. Later, the mother said she was confronted by a group of people at a separate location. During this second argument, the mother said someone fired a gun, and the bullet entered the mother’s vehicle and struck both children.

After the shooting, the mother drove to DCH with her children, who were later transported to Children’s Hospital in Birmingham. Both children are expected to recover.

The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit is investigating the shooting. Anyone who may have been involved or a witness to the incident is asked to contact VCU at 205-464-8690.
