Veterans of Foreign Wars pays tribute to their own Thursday

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6022 honored their own Thursday, celebrating Veterans Day with fellow organizations including the American Legion and Disabled American Veterans.
VFW Post 6022 Commander Donnie Nelson said there’s no better place to celebrate, because the VFW is many veterans’ homes away from home.
“It allows us to come together as veterans, the comradery,” Nelson said. “Veterans locally, we are like a family. A lot of us are close to one another and we continue to serve into our retirement years.”
Many veterans gathered for the celebration to enjoy each other’s company, the food and live music.
Twenty-five-year Navy veteran Walter Turner said Thursday was a heck of a day.
Turner said he’s lucky to be here and grateful that people are recognizing his service.
