Veterans group raising money for family after devastating house fire

<p dir=”ltr”>By WVUA 23 News Reporter Mackenzie Wanicka</p><p>The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6022 is ensuring a local family doesn’t go without after their home went up in flames last month.</p><p>On Saturday, the VFW is hosting a fundraising event for Tabetha Nichols and her family. Activities include a motorcycle ride starting at the VFW at 1 p.m., barbecue plates for $10 starting at 3 p.m., music, karaoke and more.</p><p>“Our main mission is taking care of our veterans and of our community and this is part of our community,” said VFW commander, Donnie Nelson.</p>
<p dir=”ltr”>Nichols is an employee at the VFW, Nelson said, and that makes her one of their own.</p><p dir=”ltr”>“Tuscaloosa has always been wonderful in giving out their hearts in their community and stepping up when we need to and we’re just a vessel to facilitate what at our VFW,” said Nelson.</p><p dir=”ltr”>The family is in need of clothing in addition to monetary donations, Nelson said.</p><p>Sizes needed include:</p><ul><li data-ogsc=”rgb(0, 0, 0)”>Women’s small shirts/jackets</li><li data-ogsc=”rgb(0, 0, 0)”>Women’s pants sizes 2-4</li><li data-ogsc=”rgb(0, 0, 0)”>Women’s shoes size 7.5</li><li data-ogsc=”rgb(0, 0, 0)”>Girls clothes size 7-8</li><li data-ogsc=”rgb(0, 0, 0)”>Girls shoes youth size 1</li><li data-ogsc=”rgb(0, 0, 0)”>Toddler size 11 months</li><li data-ogsc=”rgb(0, 0, 0)”>Boys shoes toddler size 3</li></ul><p dir=”ltr”>Donations can be dropped off at the VFW Post 6022, 7001 University Blvd. E. in Cottondale.</p><p>There is also a GoFundMe available for those who can lend a hand financially. <a href=”https://www.gofundme.com/f/nichols-house-fire-benefit?utm_campaign=p_cp+share-sheet&utm_medium=copy_link_all&utm_source=customer” target=”_blank” rel=”noopener”>You can find it right here.</a></p>
