Verner Elementary School students are hitting the books this week for the semi-annual Scholastic Book Fair.

The school hosts the event twice a year as a fundraiser for new library books. Scholastic provides books and the schools can get a percentage of the profits.

All students in kindergarten through fifth grade get an assigned time to visit the book fair, but it’s also open before and after school.

Verner Librarian Alice Russell said it’s one of the students’ favorite weeks of the year.

“They get very excited,” she said. “We send home flyers, so they know some of the titles we’re going to be getting, but it’s always a big surprise when they come in on book fair week and see what’s actually there.”
