Many things have changed over the past 100 years, but Vance Elementary School has stood the test of time as it recently celebrated its 100th anniversary.
Current and former staff and students came together to honor the history of the school. Guests enjoyed cake and looked at mementos and pictures from the past 100 years that line the hallways. Students also gave tours of the school.
Principal Carolyn Wilson spoke about why this celebration is important for teaching the students about their history.
“Our children today need to know that Vance didn’t always have all these modern buildings that we have now or the technology that we have now. They need to see that things evolve and hopefully get better,” Wilson said.
This was a way to honor the past of the school and also celebrate its future.
