University Wants Your Input for Quad Renovations

Quad Renovations

The University of Alabama is asking for input on their upcoming plans to revamp the quad.

The university wants to hear from students, faculty and the community before they finalize renovation plans for the outdoor space. They have released a survey to pinpoint possible improvements.

UA student Gabi Borra said she appreciates the school seeking outside opinions.

“They’re actually asking for our input on this instead of just making a decision for everyone. And including the community in the decision as well because students aren’t the only people that enjoy the quad,” Borra said.

The final plan will be complete in January, the university said, and potential renovations include upgraded wifi service, sidewalk improvements and additional seating.

Because of the pandemic, many people are looking for outdoor spaces to study, work, and hang out. Borra said she thinks these renovations are coming at a good time.

“This renovation is a great thing, especially because of the time we are in right now,” Borra said. “Because classes are majority online, so if students want they can go out on the quad and do a Zoom class on the grass or on a bench and do their homework. And be around people socially distanced and safe and outside.”

UA officials said the end goal of the project is to create a meaningful and maintainable outdoor space for everyone to enjoy.
