The University of Alabama is taking part in a tornado research project to help better prepare the community for severe weather.

Dr. Laura Myers and the Center for Advanced Public Safety are conducting research on how the community receives their severe weather information.

This study is the first of its kind, reaching out to people who are concerned about tornado safety.

“There’s a lot of people who are disconnected and are going on about their business and don’t even realize that these things are available to them,” said Meyer. “We are trying to figure out who those people are and reach those people and help them get the information they need.”

Researchers hope to better educate the community on the various weather alert systems available to the Tuscaloosa community.
