UNION FURNITURE OWNER OFFERING LOCALS A PIECE OF HISTORY

By WVUA 23 Student Reporter Jack Royer

The time of the year when fireworks fly brings out the patriot in one Tuscaloosa furniture store owner.

Aaron Christian is the third-generation owner of Union Furniture Company on Greensboro Avenue. For the second year in a row, he’s giving away free copies of the Declaration of Independence to remind people of the true meaning of Independence Day.

“History is virtually not taught in the public schools anymore and we just feel like we’re making a small contribution to it,” Christian said.

It’s the latest in a series of calendars and historical prints he’s given away for years with no purchase necessary. He says he feels he’s providing a service to the community.

“We hope we help with he historical movement, and maybe bring a little meaning to the Fourth of July — a better meaning,” Christian said.

You can pick up your free copy of the Declaration of Independence during normal business hours at Union Furniture Company on Greensboro Avenue.
