UNEMPLOYED? YOU MAY QUALIFY FOR BENEFITS UNDER THE CARES ACT

While Americans across the country are getting their federal stimulus checks, additional benefits are available for those who are out of work through the CARES Act.

Alabama Department of Labor Secretary Fitzgerald Washington said the state has already paid out $48 million since last Wednesday.

As far as Alabama’s unemployment claims go, 73,000 claims came in last week. In all, 264,000 claims have been filed since March, in comparison to 130,000 claims for the entirety of 2019.

That huge influx is causing issues, but the Department of Labor is working on making filing for unemployment as easy as possible with website updates.

Washington said he encourages anyone out of work to check labor.alabama.gov to see if they qualify for assistance. Those who are unemployed can file for unemployment online via the same website.
