The University of Alabama’s College of Communication and Information Sciences received an Equity and Diversity Award Wednesday.
The Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication Equity & Diversity Award celebrates journalism and mass communication programs working toward increasing equity and diversity among faculties.
“The unit must display progress and innovation in racial, gender, and ethnic equality and diversity during the previous three years,” according to the association’s website. “Specifically, units will be evaluated for progress and innovation in racial, gender, and ethnic equity and diversity.”
In celebration of the award, a breakfast reception was held in the Digital Media Center at Bryant-Denny Stadium, along with a mini-symposium in the Ferguson Center, with college faculty members speaking about how they foster a diverse and inclusive environment.
According to a news release from the university’s website, the College of Communication and Information Sciences is among the most prestigious and largest communication colleges in the nation to date.
