UAB Doctor: COVID surge may move on soon

Omicron Variant Covid

In the midst of another COVID-19 surge, where there have been a record number of cases involving the omicron variant, some people believe the new variant may not be as troublesome as prior ones.

Recently, UAB Hospital Epidemiologist Dr. Suzanne Judd said the past few weeks may look hectic right now, but the sudden spike should be dropping sooner than later.

“This current surge is estimated to last two or threes weeks before we really start to get some relief from this higher level where we are right now, and then it should go back to where it was pre-omicron,” said Judd.

But that doesn’t mean it’s time to throw precaution to the wind, she said. Masking, social distancing, and above all getting the vaccine are the best ways to prevent the virus’ spread.
