UA STUDENTS GIVE BACK WITH 24-HOUR MARKETING MARATHON

Capstone Agency, The University of Alabama’s student-run communications firm, will hold its fourth-annual CreateAthon from Jan. 31 to Feb. 1 at Reese Phifer Hall.

67 Capstone Agency students will stay awake for 24 hours to provide public relations, communications, marketing and advertising work for 13 West Alabama and Birmingham non-profit organizations.

“Many of these nonprofits do not have the resources to allocate time, money and energy into communications work, so we are able to fill that void,” said Maribeth McClenny, Capstone Agency Senior Media Coordinator. “Seeing the look on their faces during the final pitches is priceless and very rewarding.”

Last year’s CreateAthon resulted in over $71,000 of donated work.

Capstone Agency works to develop steady relationships with these organizations, as many of them return to CreateAthon each year.

Arts ‘n Autism will be returning for their third year.

“Working with these students has been excellent,” said Jan Sikes, co-founder and executive director of Arts ‘n Autism. “Capstone Agency brings a creative, new perspective to our approach.”

The event will kick off at noon on Jan. 31 with clients arriving for final presentations between 9 a.m. and noon on Feb. 1.
