UA STUDENTS DEMONSTRATE, DEMAND CAMPUS DIVERSITY OFFICER

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) – Students linked arms at the University of Alabama in a demonstration asking administrators to establish an office of diversity on the Tuscaloosa campus.

Several dozen students stood across the front of the administration building Friday after delivering a demand for a campus diversity officer to President Stuart Bell.

The students say they support demonstrators at the University of Missouri. But they also have concerns about the racial atmosphere at Alabama and the lack of an administrator to concentrate on diversity issues.

The protest came days after student body president Elliot Spillers and two other black student leaders appeared in a video discussing episodes of racism at Alabama.

A university statement says the school is making progress, and Bell has been meeting with students and others to discuss their concerns.
