UA RURAL MEDICINE PROGRAM ENTERS 20th YEAR
A University program devoted to creating doctors for rural Alabama towns enters it’s 20th year.
The Rural Medical Scholars Program takes medical students from rural communities and trains them to be family physicians for the towns in which they grew up.
Experts say that 60 of Alabama’s 67 counties are deficient in primary medical care, meaning that families have a difficult time finding a doctor to treat their everyday medical needs.
WVUA 23’s Jack Royer talked to leaders of the program and a student.
