UA REMEMBERS STUDENTS WITH MEMORIAL SERVICE

TUSCALOOSA – Wednesday started off as a gloomy day but the sun managed to shine down on  a special memorial service.

Friends and family of five University of Alabama students who passed away this year gathered at Denny Chimes to mourn and celebrate their memory.

The service included words of faith from Dr. Gorman Houston and warm remarks from Elliot Spillers.

Chimes tolled after each student’s name was read during the necrology. Tears filled the crowd’s eyes as they reflected on the lost lives.

Student Ambassador, Kevin Bayne, told WVUA 23 that this was the first time he’d experienced a memorial service held by a university.

Bayne said, “A day of remembrance, a day of honoring those who have passed away, a way to show a lot of gratitude and remorse to the families who have lost students”.

As the service ended Denny Chimes played the Alma Mater, a way to show family and friends that their loved ones are still remembered at the University of Alabama.
