With many businesses closing, the University of Alabama Medical Center wants everyone in the community to know they are remaining open as the pandemic continues.

Dr. Richard Friend said they are still seeing patients on-site, but can also use telemedicine via Zoom or FaceTime. For on-site visits, forms get emailed and picked up outside, and the waiting room has been expanded to comply with social distancing standards.

Friend, the dean of the University of Alabama College of Community Health Sciences, also said they are, of course, helping anyone with coronavirus concerns, but also with any medical needs they may have.

“We certainly have the capacity to see patients and we really want to be here to serve the community as the longer this goes on,” Friend said. “I think the more difficult it’s going to be for folks to keep up their basic health care needs – those diabetics, those hypertensive patients – we want to make sure they can get their refills and see a physician.”

Friend also assured that all their supplies are still in stock. If you have any questions, you can call the UA Medical Center at (205) 348-1770.
