TYREN JONES ARRESTED ON POT CHARGE, DISMISSED FROM TEAM

University of Alabama running back was already on indefinite suspension from team

Another football player for the University of Alabama found himself in trouble with the law and the team Tuesday morning after being charged with marijuana possession.

Tyren Antwan Jones, the 20-year-old suspended running back for the Crimson Tide, was arrested at about 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday after police said they found marijuana on him.

Hours after the arrest, Tyren Jones was dismissed from the Alabama football program, according to AL.com.

Jones was already on indefinite suspension, with coach Nick Saban saying Jones’ conduct did not meet the standard of the Alabama football program. His suspension started early in the semester for an undisclosed violation of team rules, and this week he was dismissed because of failure to comply with the parameters of his suspension, according to the Tuscaloosa News.

Police said an officer stopped a white Dodge Challenger that Jones was riding in for speeding on 10thAvenue in Tuscaloosa. The officer said he smelled marijuana coming from the car and found
digital scales and more marijuana inside.

The owner of the car, 25-year-old Brandon Lee Hansberry, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Police said they found a small amount of marijuana in Jones’ pocket.

This is the third arrest of an Alabama football player since Saturday and the second player to get dismissed from the team..
