Two students arrested at Oakman Middle for carrying gun to school

Two students were arrested Monday at Walker County’s Oakman Middle School for bringing a gun to school.
The Walker County Sheriff’s Office said the principal was notified that a student was in possession of a handgun on campus and immediately notified the on-site school resource officer, Walker County Sheriff’s Deputy Greg Warren.
A firearm was found in the student’s backpack, WCSO said, but there is no proof of an actual threat to the school.
The suspects’ names cannot be released because of their age.
Walker County Schools Superintendent Dennis Willingham released the following statement:
Yesterday, there was an incident involving a student having a gun in his backpack at Oakman Middle School.
Within a few minutes of being notified, the principal and SRO confiscated the backpack and handled the situation appropriately.Because proper protocol was followed, a terrible situation was turned into a best case scenario for everyone.I want to commend the Oakman administrators and Sheriff’s Department for ensuring that everyone was safe.
