TWO MEXICAN RESTAURANTS CLOSE WITHIN DAYS OF EACH OTHER
Story by WVUA 23’s Libbi Farrow.
Two local Mexican restaurants that have been a staple of Tuscaloosa recently closed their doors for good.
Iguana Grill, one of the first restaurants to inhabit a space in Midtown Village, permanently closed after being open since 2007.
Chuy’s, a Tex-Mex restaurant across the way in the Shoppes at Legacy Park, also closed a few days ago. It had been open since 2015.
Jim Page, the president and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama, said this is not anything out of the ordinary and that Tuscaloosa is still thriving with food choices.
“I just want to underscore that we have a really strong restaurant market here and we hear from restaurants a lot about the volume of business that they do here especially from our chain restaurants that have locations elsewhere,” Page said. “We are really proud of the restaurants we have here both from a chain perspective and from a local restaurant perspective.”
Page said that he just believes this was an unfortunate coincidence for Tuscaloosa.
