Things aren’t always black and white, but that was the theme at the Black and White Gala held over the weekend for Mind Changers in Tuscaloosa.

The gala’s goal is making sure Mind Changers can continue their work throughout West Alabama.

So what is Mind Changers? The program helps mentor young people across Tuscaloosa. Mentors include teachers, law enforcement, professionals and more and they’re having a measurable impact on the children they spend time with.

Central Elementary School Principal Monte Linebarger said the program is invaluable.

“We’re on the west side, so it’s helping them because they need the resources,” he said.

Mentors volunteer their time, but Mind Changers still needs resources. So the organization’s board members try and keep their fundraising fun and creative.

“It came to my mind because I attend several galas in the past,” said event organizer Lakeshia Davis. “It’s fundraising, charity and having a good time all in one.”

Proceeds from the event are going toward helping the organization mentor children for the rest of the year.
