Tuscaloosans honor Martin Luther King Jr. Monday

Many events are taking place all across the nation and right here in West Alabama to honor the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.

Hundreds of residents including Tuscaloosa’s youth gathered at Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School Monday afternoon for the annual Unity March.

Participants marched to Tuscaloosa City Hall, where they heard from speakers including Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox, District 1 Tuscaloosa City Council Member Matthew Wilson and representatives from the Southern Christian Leadership Conference.

The theme for this year is “Realizing the Dream through Commitment and Sacrifice.”

Events concluded Monday night with a mass rally at First African Baptist Church.
