This year’s sales tax holiday showed up at the registers over the weekend, and shoppers in Tuscaloosa enjoyed watching 10% fall off the price tags of the items they purchased.

At The Shirt Shop in downtown Tuscaloosa, shoppers enjoyed a relaxing atmosphere alongside the tax-free holiday.

“I would like to say, personally I am very glad about tax-free weekend because with school starting back it’s a good opportunity to load up on some gear,” said shopper Drew Daws. “I really had no clue that it was this weekend until yesterday.”

The back-to-school tax-free weekend begins on the third Friday in July and ends Sunday at midnight, ensuring shoppers with an eye for deals can pick up clothes, school supplies and technology without paying sales tax.

In a lot of cases, stores also offered their own sales on top of the tax-free price.

“With tax-free weekend, it gives everyone really a leg-up in buying new clothes or whatever else they might need,” Daws said..
