As the holidays near, the Tuscaloosa Community Soup Bowl is looking for help ensuring their Thanksgiving meal on Sunday, Nov. 21, happens without a hitch.

The organization will be serving up a hot lunch that day and handing out bags of food that can feed a family of four.

Soup Bowl Executive Director Susan Lavender said they’re expecting to serve more than 500 people.

“Last year we served 540 people for lunch and gave away 480 Thanksgiving bags,” Lavender said. “We will be prepared to at least give away that much. Anything we can do to help feed our clients. We love them and we want to provide everything we can for them.”

In preparation for making all that food, the Soup Bowl visits local churches and hands out lists of items they need to make the meals possible.

And they’re always looking for volunteers, Lavender said.

“We also have on our Facebook page where items will be listed that you can bring to the Soup Bowl,” Lavender said. “Or you can give us a $25 check and we will do the shopping for you.”
