Both the Tuscaloosa City and Tuscaloosa County school systems initiated their summer nutrition programs this week so students can get healthy meals while school’s out.

The systems help ensure children across the county get at least one healthy meal a day throughout summer. Students can get free breakfast, snacks and lunch at almost 50 school cafeterias across Tuscaloosa County. The Tuscaloosa County Schools Nutrition Ignition school bus makes stops in eight different neighborhoods Monday-Friday.

“It’s just really, really impacted the community in a positive way that we’re able to come into the community and actually feed these children at their home, at their home base and keep them safe and healthy,” said TCCS Director of Child Nutrition Donette Worthy.

Both systems’ summer feeding programs run from now until July 26. For a list of locations, click right here.
