Mayor’s Night Out

Reporting by WVUA23’s Jabaree Prewitt.

It was a packed house at Druid City Brewing Company on Thursday night as Mayor Walt Maddox made his rounds to talk with constituents during the Mayor’s Night Out event.

The event gave residents a chance to talk with the mayor and ask him about anything going on in the city. Topics of conversations ranged from Elevate Tuscaloosa, road construction and crime. Maddox was happy to report that there have not been many major incidents in a week or so and he believes the city’s partnership with the county sheriff’s department has been successful.

Since becoming mayor, Maddox has worked to form a transparent relationship with Tuscaloosa’s residents. He’s held over 100 town hall meetings.

“We want to be approachable,” Maddox said. “A lot of times we think of politics being stuffy or the politician being not approachable one of the things I try to pride myself on is that I want people to call me Walt. I want people to know they can always come up to me and tell me what’s going on and why not do it in a brewpub.”

Many residents enjoyed the Mayor’s Night Out and plan to be at the next one.
