This month, the Tuscaloosa Public library is participating in a nationwide effort to increase library participation.

September marks Library Card Sign-Up Month, which is meant to remind parents, caregivers and students, that a library card is the first step toward academic achievement and lifelong learning. TPL’s director of public relations, Vince Bellofatto, said, “Reading is the foundation of learning and we really encourage parents to participate as a family in instilling that value in their children. Plus it’s fun.”

A library card opens a world of possibilities through resources and services that give students the tools to succeed in school and beyond. It is easier than ever now at the Tuscaloosa Public Library.

“You need to bring a photo ID and a piece of mail that shows you are a resident of Tuscaloosa County and the people at the circulation desk will help you out,” Bellofatto said.

This year, Disney-Pixar’s “Toy Story 4” characters Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Bo Peep and others are going on adventure as honorary chairs of Library Card Sign-Up Month in an effort to promote the value of a library card and bring attention to the many ways libraries transform lives and communities.

A library card also gives you access to all the programming and resources that can be found online through the Tuscaloosa Public Library.

For more information about how to sign up for a library card, visit a Tuscaloosa Public Library location in person or visit TPL online at www.tuscaloosa-library.org.
