TUSCALOOSA PUBLIC FIGURE ODESSA WARRICK HAS DIED

Former Tuscaloosa city councilwoman Odessa Warrick passed away Aug. 5.

Warrick graduated from the Tuskegee Institute School of Nursing and was a U.S. Army/Air Force retired veteran. She would go on to become a civil rights activist, fighting for equality at sit-ins and boycotts across the state and country.

In 1997, Warrick became Tuscaloosa’s first African American city councilwoman. She served two terms representing District 1. Warrick was also a very active member of the First African Baptist Church.
