The League of <a href=”https://www.lwv.org/local-leagues/lwv-greater-tuscaloosa” target=”_blank” rel=”noopener noreferrer”>Women Voters of Greater Tuscaloosa is urging people to register to vote before the upcoming elections within the next few months. The goal is to increase voter turnout.

League of Women Voters spokesperson Katheryn Byrd said that the voter turnouts for elections have been as low as thirty percent in the past.

“It can be that pitiful,” said Byrd, “even in important presidential races.”

Byrd emphasized on the importance of voting because she feels every voice should be heard in the upcoming elections next year.

“You should go out and speak your mind as a word by voting,” she said, “And I think it’s to give if you don’t vote then somebody else’s vote has more power and that may not be the one that you want.”

National Voter Registration Day is on Tuesday, Oct. 1.
