TUSCALOOSA, NORTHPORT FIRST RESPONDERS TEAMING UP FOR CAR SEAT CHECKUPS

With every minute that ticks by, two children suffer an accidental injury. But Safe Kids Worldwide believes the lion’s share of those are preventable, and this week they want parents focused on properly installing their car seats.

Northport and Tuscaloosa fire and rescue workers are teaming up for a car seat safety check at Northport’s Fire Station No. 1 (3500 McFarland Blvd., Northport) on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Instructional sessions on proper installation will also be offered.

Northport Police Chief Gerald Burton said he’s seen firsthand how properly installed child seats save lives.

“We have over the years worked several bad wrecks the kids came out unscathed because the seats were installed correctly,” he said.

Residents can set up appointments for their checkup by calling 205-469-1234.
