TUSCALOOSA NEEDS MORE MATH, SCIENCE TEACHERS
TUSCALOOSA – Tuscaloosa City Schools are in dire need of more math and science teachers, and they’re offering incentives for potential instructors.
Beginning March 1, the system is offering three-year bonuses for new math and science teachers. It works out to an extra $5,000 over three years for a certified math or science teacher, and $4,000 over three years for teachers with alternative baccalaureate certification.
In addition, current Tuscaloosa City Schools teachers who transfer to Westlawn Middle or Central High School are also eligible for a bonus.
TCS Executive Director of Human Resources Deron Cameron said students are the top priority.
“We keep adding to our offerings to help our students progress,” he said. “And we want to be able to provide qualified teachers in the areas of math and science.”
